About the Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky is a medium dog breed known for being mischievous, loyal, outgoing. Classed in the Working group, it suits owners who can give it consistent routine, company and the right amount of daily activity. Before choosing a Siberian Husky, be honest about your space, your climate and the time you can commit each day. In Pakistan's summer heat, plan indoor rest during the hottest hours and always keep fresh water available.

Exercise & activity

Plan daily walks plus play or training time. Split activity into cooler morning and evening sessions during summer, and never exercise a Siberian Husky hard immediately after a meal. Mental work — scent games, puzzle feeders, short obedience drills — tires this breed as much as physical exercise and prevents boredom-driven chewing or barking.

Grooming & coat care

Brush regularly to keep the coat healthy and control loose hair around the home. Check ears weekly, trim nails every few weeks and brush teeth several times a week. Bathe only when needed with a pet-safe shampoo — frequent bathing strips natural oils and irritates the skin.

Feeding & nutrition

Feed a complete, age-appropriate diet in measured meals rather than free feeding. Adults usually do well on two meals a day; puppies need three to four smaller ones. Watch body condition monthly: you should feel the ribs easily and see a waist from above. Adjust portions rather than relying only on the label.

Training & socialisation

Start socialisation and reward-based training early. Short, positive sessions work far better than long or forceful ones, and consistency across the whole family is what makes commands stick. Teach a reliable recall, loose-lead walking and calm greetings before problems form.

Health to watch for

Like every breed, the Siberian Husky has some inherited tendencies — joint problems, eye conditions, dental disease and weight gain are the most common issues seen in practice. Stay on schedule with vaccination, deworming and parasite prevention, and book an annual check-up (twice yearly for seniors) so problems are caught early.
